Journal 71: Historical Influence
From the time line in the book and other online resources I would say that i am most familiar with the sinking of the Titanic, the armory show, and World War 2. The events that are new to me would be the first radio broadcast and commercial television broadcast in america. I think wars were what shaped the modernist movement the most. Every Era there is a war or revolution of some kind that acts as a catalyst to boost the development and change in the arts. Wars traumatize the people and in those times a lot of people use different art forms to express their feelings which many times end up as a new movement. In regard to events around the world today, I think the rebellions in the middle east and the economic recession are going to be main factors to the change in the art if there are going to be any at all. Both of these events have been a great influence on the people and even more on those who are expressive and want their ideas to be heard. There is always a great historical event that ties in with major changes in art movements and sometimes it can be separate events happening in separate areas that result in the same or similar change/
